According to the USDA, in 2020, 6.7% of all U.S. households reported using a food pantry, an increase from 4.4% in 2019. For some, food pantries are a source of emergency aid to solve a hunger crisis. For others, food pantries supplement low-income families with nutritious meals. Anyone can support their local pantry or organization. What's important is to get started.
Some of the larger organizations that provide food and pantry services are listed below.
Our lists and maps below are not comprehensive and just a start. Countless organizations are in our local communities, and may not be listed in our maps or tables.
All of them play an important part in getting food to the people who need it. For example, 48% of U.S. congregations either had their own food-distribution program or supported efforts run by another organization, such as a food bank or food pantry. That’s over 150,000 congregations in the United States.
